CHICKENS hatched during the hot summer months usually grow more slowly than do those hatched during cool weather. Heywang (1944), however, reported the results of several experiments in which the growth of young chickens was stimulted during hot weather when they received artificial light and were thus permitted to eat during the cooler, as well as the hotter, part of the day. Other experiments were then conducted during hot weather in which some of the young chickens had access to feed during only the cooler part of the day while others had access to feed during only the hotter part of the day or during only the daylight hours. In these experiments, the detailed results of which will appear in another paper, the chickens that had access to feed during only the cooler part of the day grew faster than the others.
