Abstract

Parts of this article were presented at the First Session of the World Intellectual Property Organization Advisory Committee on Management of Copyright and Related Rights in Global Information Networks, held in Geneva on 14 and 15 December 1998. These parts have been updated and modified for the purposes of this article. Also, a longer version of some of the descriptive parts of the article was recently published by the Journal of Electronic Publishing at «http://www.press.umich.edu/jep/04-03/index.html».
