Abstract Describes a method of determining the three-dimensional orientation of single grains in sands and sandstones, and discusses results of measurements made for water-laid sediments deposited under experimental conditions and for specimens from foreset and topset beds of fossil dunes (Triassic, Arran, Scotland).
