Abstract

The transient near-field of the electrostatic discharge (ESD) is a kind of high power transient phenomenon, which is strongly affected by the discharge current waveform. In this paper, two different kinds of discharge current waveforms satisfying the definition of the IEC61000-4-2 are introduced. The alternating-direction-implicit finite-difference time-domain (ADI-FDTD) method is applied to simulate the transient near-field of the indirect ESD through the vertical couple plane (VCP). The configuration of the current source is considered carefully. The simulation results under different discharge current waveforms show different transient effects. The simulated data are compared with those measured by an optic testing system.
