Manganese oxides and associated minerals of the Nsuta manganese deposits, Ghana, west Africa

Open publisher page 35 citations

Abstract

Material here referred to as Nsuta MnO 2 is the most abundant oxide component of the ores, which occur mainly as replacements and cavity fillings in folded, deeply weathered Precambrian (Birrimian) phyllites. Other minerals include cryptomelane, pyrolusite, and lithiophorite. Ore textures and the character and paragenetic relations of the mineral assemblage suggest a supergene origin for the deposits.
