ON THE BASIS FOR THE FREUNDLICH ADSORPTION ISOTHERM

Abstract

The theoretical underpinnings of the Freundlich adsorption isotherm, an often useful empiricism, are discussed. It is shown that the Freundlich expression does not originate from a true exponential distribution of energies of adsorption for the adsorption sites. However, at low solute concentration, a certain energy distribution which is semi-exponential in nature does lead to the Freundlich expression.
