Catheter placement within the atrial septum: Demonstration of the potential space between the septum primum and septum secundum

Radiological interest in the atrial septum has centred almost exclusively on demonstration of defects within it, either of the primum or secundum variety. Demonstration of the septum itself has been limited to definition of either the right or left surface in contact with contrast material in the right or left atrial chambers, respectively. In the case to be described, catheter placement occurred between the two leaves of the septum and the contrast material injection demonstrated the potential space between the two leaves.
