Abstract
It is argued that the $\ensuremath{\eta}$ meson can be expected to play a significant role in generating three-body forces in nuclear matter. This seems to invalidate earlier conclusions, based on $\ensuremath{\pi}$ exchange, that the effect of three-body forces in nuclear matter is insignificant.
