The European remote sensing scientific community and the Council of Europe

Abstract

Following initiatives taken by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe since 1970, and the European ministers in charge of research in September 1984, the European Network of Scientific Co-operation was launched. Under the joint sponsorship of the European Space Agency, the Commission of the European Communities and the Council of Europe, the European Association of Remote Sensing Laboratories (EARSeL) was established. The Council of Europe's contribution towards support of EARSeL activities is described in the paper.
