A Conceptual Model for Co-Occurring Mental and Substance-Related Disorders

Abstract

A model to aid practitioners who treat individuals with co-existing substance and mental disorders is set forth. The model is designed to help clinicians recognize four classifications of “dual diagnosed” clients. Each classification is reviewed with respect client profiles, service needs and suggested interventions.
