Abstract

The support rights of stepchildren in stepfamilies are uncertain. The support rights of stepchildren in divorced stepfamilies are more uncertain. Traditionally stepparents, after divorce, are not legally responsible for the support of stepchildren. Is tradition changing? This paper examines the legal responsibilities of support by stepparents for stepchildren during a remarriage and notes the impact of the divorce upon child support, visitation and custody after divorce from the remarriage.
