Abstract

Parent lines of the high-frequency satellites alpha ", alpha ', alpha 3 ", alpha 3 , alpha 4 , alpha 5 , alpha 6 and alpha 3 ' in the K region; alpha ', alpha ix , alpha x , alpha a , alpha 2 ', alpha 3 , alpha 4 , alpha 5 , alpha 5 ', alpha 6 , alpha 7 , alpha 8 and alpha 9 in the L region and alpha I , alpha II , alpha III , alpha IV and gamma ' in the M region have been reported. The parent lines of L beta , L gamma and M beta satellites already reported in the tables of Cauchois and Hulubei have been confirmed. General validity and a qualitative justification of a 'new criterion' for the assignment of the parent lines of high- frequency X-ray satellites first proposed by Deodhar have been shown and discussed. Finally it has been concluded that the 'new criterion' seems to be more fundamental than the 'semi-Moseley plots'. Attention is drawn to the importance of this study.
