Abstract

The development of European HDTV is now entering a new phase which is centred on the work being undertaken in the Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) project. This project is producing standards for data compression, multiplexing and modulation for terrestrial, cable and satellite broadcasting. The proposals emerging from this work imply that a given channel should be capable of conveying either standard, extended or high definition services, possibly in sequence.
