Abstract

Alfalfa, Medicago sativa L., populations differed significantly in suceptibility to oviposition by the alfalfa weevil Hypera postica (Gyllenhal) in laboratory preference tests. Factors responsible for oviposition preference were strongly influenced by changes in environment. Low oviposition was associated with small stem diameter. Selection for resistance to oviposition appeared to be effective. Methods of testing alfalfa for resistance to oviposition were described.
