Abstract

The cutoff conditions are determined for a planar waveguide containing an amplifying (or absorbing) waveguide layer. The dependence of the waveguide layer thickness and propagation constant on the level of gain (damping) in the waveguide under the cutoff conditions is numerically analyzed.
