Abstract

We have calculated the electronic structure, photoelectron spectra, and magnetic moments for the UPdSn compound. The electronic structure and photoelectron spectra (x-ray photoemission spectroscopy) were calculated using both itinerant as well as localized 5f states (using both an ${\mathit{f}}^{2}$ and ${\mathit{f}}^{3}$ configuration). By comparing our calculated results with experimental data we argue that the localized ${\mathit{f}}^{2}$ configuration is likely to be the most appropriate description for UPdSn.
