Summary The oestrogenic activities of a number of varieties of white clover ( Trifolium repens L.), red clover ( Trifolium pratense L.), and lotus ( Lotus uliginosus L.) were tested by incorporating the freeze‐dried plant material in the food of ovariectomised immature mice. Oestrogenic activity was detected in all the samples of red clover but not in the white clover or lotus samples.
