Abstract

the inland rain forest drained by the Kinabatangan River. In the course of a study of the relationships among families of cypriniform fishes (Siebert, 1987), specimens collected by Inger and Chin in the course of their field work (identified as Acanthopsis choirorhynchos [Bleeker, 1854]; see Alfred, 1961; Kottelat, 1987; Burridge et al., 1990, for a discussion of the use of the spelling Acantopsis vs. Acanthopsis) were examined for comparative purposes. Close examination of these materials, which were collected from around Deramakot, Sabah, revealed them to be an undescribed species.
