Abstract

Summary A small proportion of Proteus strains was found to swarm on Sandys' salt‐deficient media. When modified by increasing the agar‐content to 3 percent, the medium inhibited the swarming of all of the 200 strains of Proteus tested. The modified medium was found to be suitable for performing colony counts on urines.
