Abstract
A continuum map, 10 square and centered on Orion A, resolves the region into its optical components NGC 1976 (M42) and NGC 1982 (M43). Line profiles of 94a hydrogen emission (7.792871 GHz) from both objects have Doppler shifts which agree with optical measurements of low angular resolution. These shifts imply a rotation of the central region of NGC 1976 around a generally north-south axis of an angular velocity 2 X 1014 rad sec.'. Small departures of the line profiles from Gaussian suggest the presence of another H ii region lying along the line of sight through the eastern side of NGC 1976 and moving away from the local standard of rest at approximately 30 to 50 km sec1. We consider physical conditions within NGC 1976 and NGC 1982
