Abstract
The plasma level of metyrapone in rats declines exponentially with a half-life of 12 min. A pretreatment with diphenylhydantoin or phenobarbital decreases this half-life to 8.5 and 6.5 min, respectively. This finding may help to explain the abnormal responses obtained in epileptic patients under treatment with phenobarbital or diphenylhydantoin when metyrapone is used for diagnostic purposes.
