Abstract

Abstract Resolved shear stress distributions are calculated from the stress fields arising from screw and edge dislocation arrays produced by stress gradients. The resolved shear stress distributions are determined for planes parallel to a primary slip plane which has undergone slip and for other slip systems. For the screw dislocation array largest resolved shear stresses are found on the cross slip plane. For edge dislocation arrays largest resolved shear stresses are found on the conjugate slip system.
