Abstract

A lack of confidence in manifold systems, flowline connections, production riser capacities, and difficulties with downhole and equipment maintenance have in the past restricted subsea production designs to a limited number of wells. An investigation into these critical areas has enabled solutions to be developed and a detailed preliminary study has been made on a hypothetical field in 3000ft of water with two production horizons. A prototype concept has been developed in the form of a 35-ft well, mostly dual completion, guidelineless, diverless system featuring commingled production from the two horizons through subsea tree, choke, and manifold systems. A semisubmersible Floating Production Vessel is located directly over the central template and connected to it by flexible risers; it can also be used for central template drilling, running, and retrieving most of the subsea equipment, and also for well workover.
