The Application of GIS Technology in Urban Landscape Planning and Design in China

Abstract

In this review, the progress in the application of GIS-a potentially developing technology-in the planning & design of urban landscape is summarized from landscape analysis & structure, landscape planning & design, the protection of historical landscape resources and the landscape three-dimensional mapping. Against the background of the immature landscape-planning science and inadequate application of GIS in China, we suggest applying GIS to the important fields of urban landscape design such as landscape evaluation & analysis, landscape planning & design, landscape management, landscape dynamic simulation and landscape regeneration.
