Abstract
Two patients had severe, yet silent, premature separation of the placenta with marked hypofibrinogenemia early in pregnancy. These cases of abruptio placentae occurred before the 28th week of gestation and despite minimal symptomotology. The quantitative chemical determination for fibrinogen appears to be the most reliable test to detect hypofibrinogenemia if the blood levels are not in the range of the minimal values for hemostasis.
