Abstract —A study of Wallerian degeneration as a function of time has indicated that the degenerative process is sequential, that it begins with myelin that was laid down last and progresses toward myelin that was laid down first. It is proposed that Wallerian degeneration is a relatively poor model for the study of degeneration of nervous tissue in many pathological conditions.
