Abstract

The Pelham gneiss dome in central‐northern Massachusetts, east of the Connecticut Valley, measures about 27 by 7 miles. Its axis strikes north‐south, and the northern end is three miles south of the New Hampshire Border. Gneissic foliation is remarkably well developed throughout the dome. The planes lie subhorizontal along the axis, and on the symmetric western and eastern slopes the dip rarely exceeds 45°.
