Abstract

Oryan, A., Nizifi, S. and Shahriari, R. 1999. Biochemical deviations in cattle infected with cysticercus of Taenia saginata. J. Appl. Anim. Res., 15: 17–23. The efficacy of routine visual diagnosis of Taenia saginata cysticercosis during routine meat inspection has been found to be quite low particularly in light infections. Therefore, a more reliable in vivo test could serve as an alternative in the abattoirs and for epidemiological investigations. In the present study, different biochemical parameters and serum proteins of blood of 16 naturally and 8 experimentally infected cattle with Cysticercus bovis were estimated. The activity of serum CK and LD in both experimentally and naturally infected animals increased significantly as compared to control ones (P<0.05). Other studied parameters viz. various serum proteins, minerals and a few enzymes were almost unaltered.
