Abstract

By stimulation with citric acid, submandibular saliva was collected from 30 young (4–16 years) and 30 old persons (60–79 years). Amylase activity and protein concentration in the saliva specimens significantly decreased with the age of the test persons. The isoamylase patterns, especially the number of ‘fast isoamylases’, did not differ in both age groups.
