Abstract

The coherence-based experimental program at the Advanced Light Source (ALS) has three components: (1) the characterization of the coherence properties of undulator radiation and the development of diffractive optical elements on Beamline 12.0.2.1; (2) coherent soft X-ray scattering and photon correlation spectroscopy on Beamline 12.0.2.2; and (3) diffraction microscopy on Beamline 9.0.1. Consideration of the coherence properties of beams derived from undulators [Citation1,Citation2] preceded the experimental developments, and while all three of these activities originated with work performed at the National Synchrotron Light Source (NSLS) [Citation3–6], the higher brightness available at the ALS in the soft X-ray region has made it the laboratory of choice for the development and exploitation of the techniques in the recent past.
