Abstract
Abstract The cerebellar nuclei of the macaque have been studied morphologically and illustrated in three planes: transverse, horizontal and sagittal. It was fourn that the nucleus interpositus consists of two distinct cell groups. These nuclei are named nucleus interpositus anterior (NIA) and posterior (NIP) since many of their features resemble those of NIA and NIP of the cat. Both nuclei are also distinct from the lateralis (NL) and the medialis (NM). The characteristics of the cell populations forming the various nuclei have been described and measurements of cell diameters of large samples have been made. Numerous small neurons scattered evenly throughout all four nuclei were also observed.
