Protein components in the hypocotyl-radicle axis of soybean seeds were compared with those in the cotyledon.The hypocotyl-radicle axis was rich in 7S and 2S proteins but poor in 1 IS protein on the profiles of analytical ultracentrifugation and of SDS-PAGE.Among the 7S-protein constituent polypeptides, a'-polypeptide was abundunt but a-and /?-polypeptides were less abundunt than in the cotyledon.Several isomers of 7S protein were found and their main constituents were a-, a'-, or both polypeptides on two-dimensional PAGE.These results indicated that the hypocotyl-radicle axis contained different types of the 7S protein than the cotyledon.
