Abstract

The purpose of the experimental investigations undertaken during the past three years was to perform an extensive and comprehensive study of the collisional dyanmics of reactants which involve collisions of negative ions and neutral molecular targets. The (laboratory) collision energy for these studies ranged from about 1 eV up to 500 eV and the experiments involved measurements of both absolute total cross sections and doubly-differential cross sections. The various processes investigated included electron detachment, charge transfer, dissociative charge transfer and reactive (or rearrangement) scattering. Reactants which were the subjects of these investigations included the negative ions H/sup -/, D/sup -/, O/sup -/ and selected halogen anions in collisions with H/sub 2/, D/sub 2/, HD, O/sub 2/, N/sub 2/, CO, CO/sub 2/, CH/sub 4/ and several methyl halides.
