Abstract
THE purpose of this study is twofold: to investigate the short-term and long-term effects of metronidazole§ in an isolated female prison population in which the incidence of trichomonas infection had previously been discovered to be 70 per cent1; and if treatment with this substance proved to be universally effective and if these socially isolated patients gave no evidence of recurrence after a period of at least three months, to provide reasonably good indirect evidence that recurrence of the infection under ordinary circumstances is probably due to heterosexual contact.
