Abstract
SHULL and Mayer (1955) described the effects of growth hormone, corticotropin, and cortisone on the blood sugar of the obese-hyperglycemic mice and their non-obese siblings. It was of importance to assay the effects of glucagon and epinephrine on the blood sugar of the obese mice since it has been found that the turnover of liver glycogen is greatly accelerated (Shull and Mayer, 1955) and the activity of liver phosphorylase is greatly elevated (Shull, Ashmore and Mayer, 1955) in the obese-hyperglycemic mice. The insulin resistance previously reported for these mice (Mayer et al., 1951) has been further analyzed by determining the blood sugar response after administration of various doses of insulin.
