Abstract

The background document provides the Agency's technical support and rationale for the development of treatment standards for the constituents to be regulated for the above-mentioned chromium-containing wastes. Section 2 describes the industries affected by regulation of these wastes, explains the processes generating these wastes, and presents available waste characterization data. Section 3 specifies the applicable and demonstrated treatment technologies for these wastes. Section 4 contains performance data for the demonstrated technologies, and Section 5 contains analyses of these performance data to determine BDAT for each waste. Section 6 contains the determination of BDAT treatment standards for the regulated constituent (chromium). Section 7 discusses an associated chromium-containing U-code waste (U032 - calcium chromate) and details the development of the treatment standards for this waste.
