Abstract
To the Editor. —I read with a great deal of interest "A Comparison of the Antipyretic Effect of Acetaminophen and Aspirin"1by Tarlin et al. The authors carried out a double-blind study proving that acetaminophen is as effective as aspirin, milligram for milligram, as an antipyretic agent. Their careful study duplicated our work2published in this journal in 1967. In that investigation, we established that the antipyretic effects of acetaminophen and aspirin were comparable in identical dosage. It is most gratifying to find that Tarlin et al1achieved the same results. Since acetaminophen is less toxic than aspirin and just as effective in similardosage, it makes eminent good sense to educate both the pediatrician and parent about these effects in order to reduce the number of aspirin poisonings in the pediatric age group. However, I take exception to the authors' claims that their study is more significant
