Abstract

It is shown that if the continuous spectrum of the infinite mauix belonging to the moment equations is taken into account, results completely equivalent to those obtained from the linearized Vlasov equation, including the Landau damping, are recovered. In fact, such procedure can be viewed as an alternative to the usual method of solving the Vlasov equation by integration along the unperturbed trajectory.
