Improving chemical product safety: what America's chemical industry is doing about it

Aware that the public is in daily contact with chemical products that are potential health risks, the chemical industry invests millions of dollars a year in safety tests and research. The Chemical Industry Institute of Toxicology (CIIT) is typical of this effort to minimize public risks. When the safety of a product is questioned, either the use criteria is strengthened or an alternative product is found.
