Negotiating the centre: towards an Asiacentric feminist communication theory

The present article explores an Asiacentric framework as an alternative for theorising and researching Asian women's rights and welfare. The article first problematises the hegemony of Eurocentric discourse in feminist movements around the world. It offers a critique of the individualist and rights bias in the Eurocentric conception of gender equality. The article then proposes an Asiacentric feminism that negotiates a centre for Asian women in conceiving a project for female flourishing and gender egalitarianism that is rooted in the experiences and the particularly cultural and historical situations of Asian women.
