Abstract
In the society where information has been increasing at a remarkable speed, information has increasingly made an impact on scientific research, production, economic activities and everyday life. The needs for information are greater than ever before, and information retrieval has therefore lately attracted great attention. This thesis elaborates on information retrieval in China. It analyses various means of information retrieval: manual retrieval, off-line retrieval, online retrieval and networking retrieval. It introduces the development of information retrieval in China, describes in detail the present information networking situation of China, and makes recommendations for future action.
