Abstract

Lineups, showups, and photographic identification procedures are helpful police practices for suspect identification. The police must be careful, however, not to violate the suspect’s rights to counsel and due process. The cases in this chapter help determine what the police can and cannot do. The leading cases briefed in this chapter on lineups and other pretrial identification procedures are United States v. Wade and Kirby v. Illinois .
