Abstract

The only comprehensive history of the world's top football tournament, fully updated to include the 1998 competition in France. As well as vivid accounts of individual games (from the first tournament in Uruguay in 1930 to the most recent, and controversial, final in Paris), there are many behind-the-scenes stories and character sketches of the great managers and players whose names, both through success and failure, will forever be synonymous with one of the world's greatest sporting events.
