Abstract
The isovector giant quadrupole resonance systematically observed by inelastic electron scattering is studied using a schematic model. Analytic expressions are given for the isovector quadrupole excitation strengths. These expressions are used to estimate the energy splitting of the two isospin components and their strengths.NUCLEAR STRUCTURE Isovector giant quadrupole resonance. Isospin splitting. Schematic model.
