Abstract

A surgical technique for primary or secondary insertion of an orbital implant is described. A silicone implant encased in a scleral homograft is placed within the muscle cone after enucleation. The implant fills up the volume deficit of the orbit and connects fairly tightly with the extraocular muscles, providing good mobility of the prosthesis. This prevents exophthalmus, which frequently follows enucleation if no intraorbital implant is fitted.
