Abstract

Stackelbergina is reported from the Nearctic region for the first time. The discovery of the immature stages living in ponds in northern Québec supports the contention that some of the apparent differences between the two Holarctic subrogions is due to inadequate collecting. Of the 91 genera of Orthocladiinae occurring in the Holarctic, 63 are common to both subregions. Previous descriptions of the larvae and pupae are augmented. The systematic position of Stackelbergina within the Orthocladiinae is discussed, especially the relationship to Orthocladius.
