Abstract

The characteristics, preparation and data necessary for the measurement of ionizing radiation by the application of a ferrous ferric chemical dosimeter are given. Dose range, dose rate dependence, energy dependence and temperature effects are discussed. Three different methods for the measurement of ferric ion concentration are described. A table of extinction coefficients for the ferrous ferric chemical dosimeter is included. A comparison of lithium fluoride dosimetry, commercial film badge dosimetry, Landsverk ion chamber dosimetry, and ferrous ferric chemical dosimetry for the measurement of cobalt 60 gamma radiation are included in tabular form.
