Abstract
Image formation and sound holography for general wave fields are discussed to provide the background for the discussion of acoustic holography, which covers the following aspects: acoustic holography by scanning methods, nonacoustic recording of acoustic holograms, the surface as a recording medium, surface response to sonic radiation pressure and its application to real-time holography. Problems connected with optical reconstruction of acoustic holograms and potential applications of acoustic holography.
