Abstract
Adenomyomatosis of the gall bladder is a benign condition of unknown aetiology, found in about 5% of oral cholecystograms (Fotopoulos & Crampton, 1964; Jutras & Levesque, 1966). It has been described under a variety of names, including cholecystitis glandularis proliferans (Jutras & Levesque, 1966). The main diagnostic test for the detection of this entity is oral cholecystography but ultrasound has also been used recently (Rice et al, 1981; Raghavendra et al, 1983). We present a report of three cases in whom adenomyomatosis of the gall bladder was diagnosed on ultrasound and confirmed either by oral cholecystography or surgery. The essential features of ultrasound diagnosis are discussed.
