Abstract
Direct hemagglutination of chicken erythrocytes in slide tests using suspensions of agar-grown vibrios has been found to be a rapid and reliable means of differentiating the 2 “agglutinable” groups of vibrios which cause epidemic cholera, V. cholerae and El Tor vibrios. The test can be performed at the time of primary isolation to give immediate results. All El Tor strains which have been tested were hemagglutinative while no V. cholerae strains were hemagglutinative under the same conditions.
